First step is awareness, if a person doesn't know he/she is doing is sub-optimal, then, how they can move on to an optimal solution. Second step is acceptance, that what has been getting done by them was not optimal. If a person is obstinate here, then, the process stops. Last, is conscious action to curb the behaviour and replace it with an optimal behaviour.
