Coronavirus (COVID-19) is all we are focusing right now. But, unconsciously also ignoring the opportunity in front of us.
It is time to be better than what you were yesterday because whenever you start that is the best time to do it.
It is time to shatter your limits and achieve success because only you can do that for yourself, no one else will.
It is time to build habits of success because success is ordained upon those who have weathered the trials of time.
It is time to pick up that book eating dust on your bedside table mounted upon which are many things.
It is time to hone your blades of skills because this time shall never return.
It is time to choose between wasting or weaving the fabric of time into something great.
It is time to be limitless in your ambition and limitless in your efforts because the cocktail of success contain both in equal amounts.
It is time to know yourself, your quirks, your irks and your tricks.
It is time for you to learn everything you ever wanted but never got the time.
It is time to do things you yearned for all your life.
It is time to be a poet, a painter, a novelist, a cook, anything and everything.
It is time to fasten your hooks on the opportunity is sitting right in front of you. There are no doors to open, just pick it up and it is yours.
Time is a tricky thing. If you believe you have a lot, you will have it. If you believe you have less, then so shall your wish be fulfilled.
Time management teaches us that. Utilizing and ushering out all the essence of a single minute is a skill worthy to have.
With the advent of lockdowns all over the world, suddenly, we have so much time, we are confused about what to do with it.
Hence, let’s break it step-by-step.
Make a list
Yes, lists are good. Once on the paper, anything will be turned into an order, rather than the chaos that ensues in our minds.
Lists are magic that convert your chaotic thoughts into an orderly carousel.
First, write everything you can think of. Yes, everything. Everything you have yearned to do for so long. Let me give you a plethora of examples.
Aerobics, baking 😋, reading books 📚, boxing, basking in sunlight 🌞, chess, cooking 🍪, dancing 💃, sculpturing, writing 📝, meditating, yoga, playing video games, gardening 🌻, knitting, woodwork, playing poker 😐, acting, bodybuilding, and of course, daydreaming 😅.
These are some of the things that came out of the top of my mind. You are unique and your list will be as unique as you.
Once you have made your list, then, sit take that and start doing this.
Take every entry in your list and think how much you want to do it, right now. Let’s quantify this.
After every entry, you are to put asterisks(*) on the basis how much you want it.
- *** — means you are dying to do this
- ** — it would be great if I could do this
- * — it doesn’t matter whether I do it or not
Once you have done this, now you know what you really wanted.
Give this exercise a lot of time 🕐.
Because once you do it, then, the rest of the steps become much easier.
It is much easier to drive on roads rather running water.
After you jot down your thoughts, they are stationary like a road unlike before when they just came and went away like running water.
Your list is done 😃.
Now, let’s allocate time for each activity.
To have a structured day, you need a unit of time that you adhere to.
Which means you need to choose whether you want to go hour by hour or 30 minutes by 30 minutes or 10 minutes by 10 minutes.
Because you will be starting something new, it is better to start with an hour to hour basis.
Take your list and allocate time in hours for each activity and make sure you keep enough time for sleeping.
You have 24 hours in a day, let’s say you sleep 6 hours or 8 hours (because you can now) and other stuff that boggles your day will take around 3 to 4 hours, so, for an optimistic estimate, you have around 12 hours.
You can literally spend half your day on your hobbies.
Life couldn’t just be better sons the impending doom.
Allocate this time, albeit wisely for your hobbies.
Assessing your time
I know it is kind of a vacation time. But, we still need to police ourselves, lest, we end up wasting all of it.
For the first few days, when you are settling down into your new, productive lifestyle, set alarm for every hour and keep a nice, soothing alarm tone.
Otherwise, your mood will get spoiled for nothing, mine was 😅.
After every hour that you spend doing something you love, you need to reward yourself and we will do it in the best way possible.
In your list, put a smiley for every hour utilized for that hobby and when your page ends, make a new page for this awesome activity.
It is a childish way to reward yourself. You can think up of more rewarding ways that suit you but record it.
When you look back upon this time, there will be some sweet time hidden on yellowed pages, that will make you remember, you had a great time despite the situation. It will motivate you to be happy in the face of disadvantageous situations.
It is time to metamorphosize from the ‘you’ today into a ‘better you’ tomorrow.
