Once upon a time, in a cozy little village named Sweetgrass, two best friends named Lily and Jack lived next door to each other. Lily loved to draw colorful pictures, and Jack loved to make music with his guitar. Everyone in the village knew them and loved their art.
One day, a magical bird named Featherwing flew into the village. Featherwing had a bright golden beak and feathers that changed colors. “I bring a special gift,” Featherwing announced, “Two magic crayons for Lily and a magic guitar pick for Jack. One crayon will make your drawings come alive, and the other will make people’s wishes come true. The magic guitar pick will let you play tunes that heal people.”
Lily and Jack were excited. They thanked Featherwing and took their gifts. Lily started drawing with the magic crayons, and her drawings danced off the paper! With her other crayon, she made the villagers’ wishes come true. Jack strummed his guitar, and his music cured people who were sick. They became heroes in Sweetgrass.
Weeks went by. Something strange happened. Lily felt tired all the time. Jack felt the same. “I don’t know why I’m so tired,” Lily told Jack.
“Me too,” Jack said, “It’s like the magic is taking something from us.”
